Modern and Traditional Fairy Tales

ONCE upon a time people told coming of age stories, tales about morality and living happily ever after. These folktales changed over time, depending on who told them and where they were told. Eventually they were written down and since then they have been passed on to children of all ages. This site is designed to explore the reasoning behind why authors chose to retell the stories in a particular fashion.

To aid the user in understanding the motives behind these retellings, and consequently the underwritten meanings of the tales, brief biographies of the authors have been included. Please take a moment to read these; they will provide you with a more in-depth understanding of the stories you are about to read.
